LaTeX Figure Archive

A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. This site is meant to be a repository for figures and diagrams to be used primarily in engineering, science, and mathematics publications. Our main goal is to reduce the time spent making figures when writing papers, and also to encourage people to use nice figures rather than ugly ones.

At the moment we are still in the process of setting up. Every figure should come with a screen-quality image as well as source code or a link to the full version, if applicable. Citations for where the figure has appeared before would also be great. Some common file formats are:

  • .tex (LaTeX picture environment or PSTricks or PGF)
  • .eps (encapsulated PostScript)
  • .jpg (JPEG)
  • .pdf (Portable Document Format)
  • .fig (Generated using xfig utility)

An important philosophical note is that the more editable-by-others a format is, the better it is for sharing. A complicated JPEG with nodes labeled with variable names is far less useful than a PSTricks or LaTeX figure that allows people to put in their own variable names.
